This classic Italian-American dish gets a bold twist with our Spicy Garlic Spread, adding depth and heat to the fiery tomato sauce.
Ingredients
For the Shrimp
- 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
For the Sauce
- 2 tbsp Spicy Garlic Spread
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup dry white wine or chicken broth
- 1 tsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped (plus more for garnish)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Steps
- Prepare the shrimp. Season the shrimp with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 1–2 minutes per side until pink and slightly golden. Remove and set aside.
- Make the sauce. In the same skillet, heat 2 tbsp olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, sautéing for 30 seconds until fragrant. Stir in the Spicy Garlic Spread and cook for 1 minute to infuse the flavors. Add the crushed tomatoes, white wine (or broth), sugar (if using), and oregano. Simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Bring it together. Return the shrimp to the skillet and toss to coat. Simmer for another 2 minutes until warmed through. Stir in fresh basil, then serve over pasta or with warm bread.
